The History of Book Covers for Project AIJAN

Introducing Cover No. 1

This cover originated with my first attempts to get AIJAN published as a serial memoir on the now defunct keepitcoming.net.

Update: 3/22/06--

keepitcoming.net now has a successor-- virtualtales.com due to start on May 1st. Read more

Introducing Cover No. 2

This cover was under consideration for AIJAN - The Blook, but we neglected obtaining copyright permission for the images and ran out of time. Later on I realized that, that was not such a bad thing, because this strikes me as more of a fiction cover than a non-fiction cover. Upon completion of the serial, all episodes will be compiled in one (or two) volumes and I might consider the cover above.

Introducing Cover No. 3

And the winner is! Classic, simple, personal. These are some of the words used to describe the above cover.

Introducing Cover No. 4

No, this cover will not replace cover number three, but it will work in conjunction with cover number three. Not one to give up easily when I have a thought in mind, I recalled a book format that I've come across from time to time. Read more

Introducting Cover No. 5

This is the cover that actually made it to print. After I did a survey at the Harlem Book Fair, cover No. 2 and Cover No. 4 were the most popular. So since I was unable to get permission to use cover No. 2, I advised my Graphic Artist to try to make Cover No. 4 exude the feel of Cover No. 2. She concluded that it was the pink color and girly atmosphere of Cover No. 2 that was winning folks over. Actually. I was glad to use Cover No. 5 because although the cover image has locs (as I do), the search for love is not a color thing or even a gender thing for that matter, but a human thing. I figure silhouette freely allows the reader to superimpose herself (sorry guys) into the character.
